Accommodation
We provide support and accommodation across Midlothian to help people with a learning disability to live independently.
St Joseph’s can support you in your own home or help you to find a tenancy in one of the houses we have access to.
Every referral we receive is assessed by our referral committee who carefully consider the persons needs and, for shared accommodation, the needs of the people who currently live in the house.
Our homes
We understand the importance of living in the right environment and having a home that meets your preferences and requirements. St Joseph’s can work with you to make sure you have a home that is right for you.
Registered as Housing Support / Care at Home services, we have access to a mixture of Local Authority, Housing Association and privately owned properties. They are homes, not residential accommodation, and include single one bedroomed tenancies, upper and lower flats, and adapted properties.
Our homes are always situated in communities and have access to outdoor space. A lot of our shared accommodation is fully accessible and some of our properties are specifically designed to support people with profound and multiple learning disabilities. The environment within the home is adapted to meet the needs of the people who live there.
Where you can find us

Here to help every step of the way
Transition
If one of our properties has a suitable vacancy and you decide that you would like to move in, we will create a person-centred transition plan with you and the people who are important in your life. This helps to ensure the move happens at the right pace for you.
Moving in
If you choose to move into a house, you can decide how to decorate it and what to have in it to make it your home. If you are moving into a shared house, we will support you and the people you live with to make decisions that suit everyone.
Looking after your home
Once you have moved in, looking after you home is your responsibility. You will need to pay your rent and bills and make sure your house is well maintained. Help with ongoing tenancy maintenance and tenancy support are part of your package of care, ensuring your home remains safe and comfortable.
Rent and benefits
If required, we can support you to apply for benefits, including Housing Benefit. In some circumstances, St Joseph’s can become your corporate appointee and support you to manage the money you receive in benefits.
Getting the right support
Whether you have moved into a new home or would like us to support you in your existing home, we can work with you to create an individualised package of care. To find out more about this, please visit the supporting you section of our website.
